What is the recommended maintenance schedule FOR THE PSS SHAFT SEAL?

The PSS Shaft Seal bellows must be inspected on a regular basis, for signs of wear, aging or chemical deterioration.

Ingot recommends the bellows be replaced every 6 years and may need more frequent inspection. Especially in an environment where non-sealed batteries emit sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid vapor will accelerate rubber deterioration, as will an ozonator.

During bellows replacement, it is encouraged that the o-rings & set screws in the stainless steel rotor are replaced; as well as the hose clamps. Under most circumstances, the carbon stator and the stainless steel rotor will not need replacing.

Can I re-use my set screws when making an adjustment or removing the pss shaft seal?

No. The set screws provided with the PSS Shaft Seal are cup-point set screws. As a result they compress onto the shaft when tightened. For this reason, any re-use of the set screws will not allow for the cup point to properly lock onto the propeller shaft.

Certified by Bureau Veritas, ABS and Rina.
